For over 30 years I have been a civil litigator in both California and Florida. Being the daughter of Cuban exiles instilled in me equal parts of strong work ethic, hopeful optimism and passion in everything I set out to do. After attending high school at Colegio Internacional de Caracas, Venezuela, I moved to California to pursue my love for writing and literature at San Diego State University where I obtained my B.A. in English, with distinction, in 1985. In college I discovered a love for the intellectual challenge of the law which led me to choose it as a profession. Stanford Law School was home until 1988 when I received my J.D. and then I returned to San Diego to begin my practice. In 1994 I made the cross-country move to Florida.
My experience includes both large firm and boutique firm environments. My practice has always focused on civil and commercial defense litigation and insurance coverage – including coverage evaluations and litigation, liability defense (premises liability, negligent security, auto/trucking, products liability, wrongful death, etc.), construction defect, fraud, bad faith defense and appellate.
I am a frequent speaker in continuing legal educational programs and insurance industry conferences and am licensed by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, Texas Department of Insurance and California Department of Insurance to instruct adjuster continuing education. Nationally I have presented on a broad range of topics including Bad Faith, Insurance Coverage, Construction Defect, Tort Defense, Discovery and E-Discovery, Fraud, Trial Skills, Ethics, Diversity and Inclusion and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
I am an active member of the American Bar Association, Section of Litigation, and hold current leadership positions in the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Legal Opportunity Scholarship Selection Committee, and the Judicial Division’s Joint Task Force on Fighting Implicit Bias in the Justice System. My past leadership positions include Co-Chair of the ABA’s Minority Trial Lawyer and Construction Litigation Committees and I have acted as national Vice-Chair and Chair of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee’s Continuing Legal Education Seminar. In addition, I am an active member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), Property and Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB), National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices (NAPSLO), and Loss Executives Association (LEA).
Awarded Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Preeminent® rating – a testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence.
